Using PEX Tubing as Radiant PEX

Cross linked polyethylene or PEX is a form of water supply piping tubes which have several advantages over other piping materials like copper, lead, or iron. Due to its flexibility, resistance to corrosion, rigidity and high resistance to chlorine, it is used for various kinds of applications. Plastic tubing for Radiant Heating is flexible, easier to install, compatible with al kinds of fittings and fixtures. For such reasons it is used for radiant floor heating applications and that is why popularly as 'Radiant PEX'.

Tubing used as radiant PEX is well composed of crosslinked HDPE that is high density polyethylene. For making such tubes, this chemical compound is melted and extruded in the form of tubing so that extreme durability and resistance to other chemical compounds can be obtained. Due to tremendous rigidity and strength, PEX tubing has been able to replace copper and led pipes for various radiant applications. Most common applications involve under floor heating, electrical insulation, refrigerant, ice rinks, preparation of concrete slabs and snow melting. Radiant PEX is easy to install and less expensive that can be installed with several easy methods depending upon its usage.

Radiant PEX is obtainable in two varieties of hydronic and electric heating and so can be used for various applications at home. This PEX tubing is incorporated with oxygen barrier that makes its applicability diverse and effective. An extra layer of oxygen barrier is present in PEX tubing so that oxygen is not able to enter into heating system. It is vital as presence of oxygen in the heating system can cause lot of components to rust and corrode leading to high maintenance and repair costs. Radiant PEX makes all components less expensive like flanges and pumps so that they can smoothly function for long.

Using closed PEX tubing with oxygen barrier is the most popular choice for radiant heating applications. Some of highly durable forms of radiant PEX are Thermapex tubing, Wirsbo Hepex and Hydropex Barrier tubing. These types of tubing save a considerable amount of money and protect other components from rust and corrosion. Another form of PEX tubing with oxygen barrier is PEX-Al-PEX which is three layered tubing with a layer of PEX, then aluminum and then again PEX. Main aspect of this type of radiant PEX is that it retains shape for as long as hundred years and will only bend when a user bends it.

PEX-Al-PEX a form of PEX tubing is commonly used in warm board systems, outdoor heating applications and high temperature activities like fan coils and baseboard. With these diverse applications, radiant PEX is also easy to install. Along with PEX tubing, there are other components as well that account for its effective installation. Manifolds, valves, sensors, thermostats and pressure testing kits are few basic components required for radiant PEX installation. Along with this a loop cad design, expansion tank, water and temperature control unit, air eliminator and zone valves are used for effective installation of radiant PEX.

PEX plumbing manifold are considered as hub of PEX tubing that connect and supply water lines by eliminating all kinds of loops. Circulator water pumps are used for circulating water throughout the PEX tubing so that regular water supply is delivered along with cost effectiveness. To make only single direction of water flow, check valves and zone valves are used. Mixing valves, mixing blocks, I-series valves and Tekmar controls are used for controlling water temperature. This is done so that boiled water can directly go through the PEX tubing and can be mixed with cold water. Approximately, 150 degree Fahrenheit water is delivered out of Radiant PEX to heat floors.

Installation of PEX tubing is easy and can be done in four different ways such as in slab, over pour, joist and wood panel tracks. The decision for selecting the type of installation depends upon the layout of a place and total space available. Joint installation of radiant PEX tubing is done where more than one floor has to be instilled with radiant heat applications. Over pour installation of radiant PEX has been designed for light weight concrete slabs, while wood panel is used in areas with floors above ground level.

Radiant PEX is a very strong and durable form of PEX tubing that possesses flexibility and compatibility. So, different forms of PEX can be used from obtainable options depending upon functionality and utility required as it is the only one useful for diverse applicability. .
