Do You Know Which PEX Fittings Are Right For You? Find Out Here!

There are two kinds of PEX fittings namely easy and slide in types. The easy style is essentially the crimping style while the slide on types can be found either in plastic or brass. You also get crimp styles in engineered plastic and brass. You can even buy rings separately to attach them later on.

Hydro Crimp PEX Fittings

These kinds of PEX fittings can be easily used in clamping system of stainless steel or crimp ring copper system. These fittings are entirely compatible along with all PEX plumbing and supplies. It is easy to establish the connections when used in the case of PEX tubing. Since these fittings are compliant with high standards, issues like quality need not be considered.

Shark Bite

These are the push fit kind of PEX fittings that make pipe installation a cinch! The intrinsic design of these PEX fittings makes the entire connection take only a couple of seconds for connecting pipes.

ProPEX Expander

These are the expansion kind of PEX fittings and are the most commonly used connection of PEX tubing used throughout Europe and US. You just need to have expansion tool and compatible ring from the same brand in order to start using these fittings.

Watts Quick Connect

If you want quick and easy connections that do away with the need for any installation tools, then this is it! For connections that have no leaks you can use these fittings with ease.

How PEX Fittings Are Used

Typically, PEX fittings get used for connection of polyethylene pipes that are used across PEX plumbing systems. Compared to plastic or metal systems, the PEX tubing is cost effective and hassle-free. There are no issues pertaining to scaling or corrosion on using such systems.

Wide Temperatures

One of the biggest advantages of PEX tubing is their ability to withstand extreme temperatures and still not get brittle from it. Compared to metal pipes, such PEX tubes are much cheaper. The installation of such pipes is also easier because so many fittings are not used as is the case with rigid plastic or metal systems. With the absence of any soldering requirement, there will be no risks or nasty fumes when you use a torch.

Easy Storage

All PEX tubing gets wrapped in the form of spools. These spools tend to weigh much lesser compared to the cut plastic or metal pipes. Hence, their storage is easier and the overall cost of shipping is also lesser. The PEX tubing can be easily unrolled from the spool directly and hence there is no requirement for any coupling fittings. Without any need to run the pipe, installation is faster and cheaper.

How to Cut PEX Tubes

These PEX tubes are cut with the help of cutters called PEX pipes cutters. These cutters are available in various sizes to be able to cut the half and three-fourth inch PEX tubes easily. A crimp tool gets used for pinching rings on top of the fitting or the pipe. In order to eliminate the crimped rings, special de-crimping tools can be used. Certain special tools are also used for the clamps made of stainless steel as well as appropriate connection techniques.

Common Material

One of the most common materials used for manufacture of the PEX fittings is - yes you guessed it right - brass! While other materials like plastic and various other metals are also used, brass remains the most popular. Such PEX fittings come with ridges that create high pressure seals when these get crimped. Compared to plastic or metal piping, the PEX tubing coupled with PEX fittings have strong advantages.
