Important components of radiant heat manifolds
One can easily warm the floors with the radiant floor heating system. This is one of the easiest and the cheapest way to warm the floors. It can be installed in number of ways. One can either use as the primary source or the secondary source. Radiant heating systems are available in hydronic as well as electric radiant heating systems. From these, one can choose according to their home requirements.
The need for radiant heating:
The biggest benefit provided by the radiant heating system is the comfort. With radiant heating system, the heat gets evenly distributed throughout the room and then rises up in the rest of the room. Once the floors get warm, the objects in the room also become warmer with this. It heats each and every object. This system helps in saving energy and ultimately leads in saving money too. It operates silently without creating rattling, popping, whistling or banging sound.
Below mentioned is the list of components that are required for installing radiant heating:
- PEX Tubing: Cross linked Polyethylene makes it sure that the oxygen barrier is there in a closed system. It ensures that it has the flexibility to be bent and strength so that it can be approved by almost all the plumbing & heating codes. The common size for radiant heat is ½".
- Radiant Heat Manifold: The hub of the heating system is connected to the supply and the return lines which are connected through the return and supply balancing manifolds. This would have ports which would be equivalent to the loops of tubing. If a system has more than 12 loops then the multiple manifolds become necessary. In case the tubing is half an inch then the loop should not be loner than 300 Ft.
- Taco Circulator pumps: It is used to circulate the water throughout the heating system. If potable water is not used then the cast iron can be used which would make the job much easier.
- Check valve: The check valves assure that the water flows in only one direction in the system.
- Water Tempering controlling system: It includes, I series valves, mixing valves, mixing blocks, tekmar controls. The boiler water cannot be sent directly to the hydronic system, the water is required to be mixed with the cold water which ultimately sends max of 150 degrees F water through the PEX for heating the floors.
- Thermostat: The thermostat is required in order to control the heat in the room. It identifies for how long the heat should stay so that the desired temperature in the room is maintained.
- Controls: There are two controls, one is the in slab sensors which communicates the slab temperature and the other one is the floor sensors which communicates the surface temperature of the floors in order to prevent the cupping, gapping, warping caused by excessive heat.
- Amtrol Expansion tanks: It is used to maintain the proper pressure in the system.
- Air eliminator: It helps in eliminating the excessive air from the system. It ensures silence.
- Zone valves: Separate zones are required to be created if different temperatures are required in different rooms.
- Pressure test kit: It is important to test the pressure in every system. It is required to be done before, during & after the installation. It ensures that the system is functioning properly.
- A Loop Cad Design: One can also use loop Cad design if using the radiant system for the first time. It ensures if the system is done correctly. One can also get the loop CAD drawn by the certified radiant designer.
