Sizing a Takagi Tankless Water Heater



Takagi Tankless Water Heater uses the latest technology to provide the highest quality hot water heating products available in the market. The heater does not contain the storage tank so the water is supplied endlessly which further depends on the fuel type and the size. Takagi Tankless Water Heater serves approximately between 200 to 500 gallons of hot water in an hour. The typical applications cover hydronic heating, radiant heating and domestic hot water heating.

For light residential usage:

For instance: If 2 people are living in a small apartment, house or a condominium which is with a single bathroom, a dishwasher and one washing machine. Therefore, T-K Jr will supply the sufficient hot water supply to run the shower and any one of the appliances simultaneously. The homeowner may also be required to run only one fixture if the incoming water is nearly freezing.

For standard residential usage:

If 5 or 6 people are living in a medium sized home, 2 showers, single sink or a washer might be required to be operated simultaneously for each week day as everybody might be getting ready either for school or offices at the same timings. For such a type of a family, the T-K3 is recommended only when the incoming water temperature is either 50 degree F or higher than this. It is also recommended when there are low flow showers of (2.0 to 2.5GPM). One can also use 2 showers & a single appliance without any problems if the freezing temperature is of 60 degrees F.

For Commercial or heavy residential usage:

This category is for larger homes where 3 or more showers are used concurrently. Here one needs to determine the maximum flow rate by using the flow chart for Takagi T-K3-OS, Takagi T-KJr, Takagi T-K3. This chart will help in identifying which unit would remain the best for an application. It would also help in determining the number of units required in the application.

The following list will help to determine which Takagi to be used:

1) T K3 is small and provides easy installation which does not have TM RE20 (multi unit controller). It can be connected to 4 units per application. It can also be converted to a direct vent. 2) T M 32: It has the higher flow rate than the T K3 which can be connected up to twenty units. It also offers the feature of MC 01 convertible to a direct vent. 3) T M 50: It has the highest hr /BTU rating. 4) T H2: It is the most efficient heater. It has the flow rate which is equivalent to that of the T M 32.

Factors that need to be considered are as follows:

1) One needs to know the coldest input temperature. It is important to know the coldest water supply during winters. This will help in determining the maximum output flow rate. 2) One also needs to know the desired set point temperature (which is usually 122 degrees F for residential usage).
